Solos for Spring Concert
You guys make choosing soloists SO hard for me. I am choosing one or two more than I really think I should, because I really want to squeeze in as many of you as possible since you were all so good. But, unfortunately, if EVERYONE who auditioned performs, this concert is going to drag on a bit too long. Listed below are the soloists/duets that will be singing (assuming any stipulations listed are fulfilled by or on our rehearsal Monday):
Audrey M. – “All-American Girl”
Sidney P. – “I’m Only Me When I’m With You” (need to hear this performed without looking at lyrics)
Dave C. & Tori B. - “Run To You” (need to hear without looking at lyrics)
Bella R. – “White Houses” (need to hear with a karaoke track)
Kathleen D. – “Love Is A Battlefield” (need to hear without looking at lyrics)
Erika H. & Brittany W. – “Make A Wave” (need to hear with a track AND without looking at lyrics)
Sahara K. & Morgan R. – “Hey Soul Sister”
Lauren A. & Alicia D. – “When I Look At You” (need to hear without looking at lyrics)
Thank you so much to those of you who were 100% ready for the audition by having your karaoke track ready and by having your song memorized. If you are on the list above and have not yet gotten your karaoke track, please do so by Monday, or you will not be performing at the concert. (Keep in mind that if you download it to your iPod or cell phone that you have to find a way to get the file to me so I can burn everyone’s tracks to one CD.) Also, songs not able to be sung from memory by Monday will also be scrapped.
Congrats you guys, and I assure you, if you didn’t make this list, it does not mean you weren’t good, because everyone who auditioned was.
Don’t Stop Believin’ Solos
Go to https://wiki.friscoisd.org/users/essaryc/blog/ to find a spreasheet of the list of solo assignments for Don’t Stop Believin’. I did the best I could to honor everyone’s requests in terms of preferred solos, and for the most part I was able to stick to it. I was also able to give most everybody a solo, which makes me happy and hopefully you too. Hopefully this spreadsheet will make sense to you; just look for your name on the left hand side and look over to the right side to see where you’ll sing your solo and what set of measures it is. At the bottom it tells you what the first few words are for each solo in case you don’t have your music in order to look up measure numbers.
McKenna will sing the solo for And So It Goes. Yay!
You guys are awesome! Let me know if you see a mistake – for instance, comment or email me if I have you singing a solo you just DON’T want, or if I have you singing a solo at Six Flags but you won’t be going.

Spring Pops!!!!!
Students,
Here’s a quick update for everyone about what’s in store this Spring. Coming up first for our boys and our 6th graders is the Pride of Texas Music Festival, which is taking place on Wednesday, May 5th at Amazing Jake’s. We will have lunch, enjoy unlimited games (bumper cars, mini-golf, rock-climbing, arcade, etc.), and then perform for a rating. You will miss almost the entire day of classes (if you have all passing grades on your most recent report card or progress report)! Then on Saturday, May 8th, those who have elected to join us at the Trills and Thrills festival at Six Flags Over Texas will also enjoy a fun-filled day. We will sing for a rating in the morning and play in the park the rest of the day. Monday, May 17th, from 4 – 6PM we will have our Spring Concert rehearsal on stage, and our Spring Concert will take place on Thursday, May 20th at 7:00PM. This concert offers the opportunity for solos, just like the Winter concert. I am listing our choral selections below so that you don’t accidently plan to audition on a song that we’re already singing as a choir.
Chorale:
“And So it Goes” – Billy Joel
“You Belong With Me” – Taylor Swift
“Here Comes the Sun” – The Beatles
Combined Girls:
“The Climb” – Miley Cyrus
Boys:
“Jailhouse Rock” – Elvis
“My Girl” – The Temptations
“Barbara Ann” – The Beach Boys
“Hey There Delilah/1,2,3,4″ – Plain White Ts
6th Grade:
“My Favorite Things (Medley)” – The Sound of Music
“I Want You Back/ABC” – Jackson 5
Combined Group:
“Don’t Stop Believin’” – Journey (Glee version)
Heart, We Will Forget Him!
Practice tracks are up! They are quite good if I don’t say so myself! HA! Anyway, go to the usual place to download them: https://wiki.friscoisd.org/users/essaryc/
“The Climb” – practice tracks
Ladies – please follow this link https://wiki.friscoisd.org/users/essaryc/ to find the MP3s of your part on “The Climb.” Please leave a comment so I know you were here. As you know, we will be performing this on Wednesday 2/3 for the 5th graders, along with “Climbin’ Up the Mountain, Children!” Make sure you have your part down! Y’all are awesome!
Just a side note – some of you asked once why I have two blogs. Frisco provides us with the Wiki one, but I don’t really like it. That’s why I use this Edublogs one. However, I can’t upload files to this one like I can on the Wiki. So that’s why I use the Wiki just for files. Just FYI if you were one of the curious ones
Sansa Kroma
These guys say “aw - cheh cheh,” not “aw – chee chee”… hmmm
Where Go the Boats?
I’ve posted an MP3 of a performance of “Where Go the Boats?” from last year’s UIL contest. This performance earned this group a ranking of 2 on stage. (1 is the best, and 5 is the worst. So 2 is fairly good.) To listen to it, go here: https://wiki.friscoisd.org/users/essaryc/
